The Pilates Pod in Hitchin love celebrating the festive season, and their special Christmas Eve classes have always been a popular fixture on their annual calendar. This year, with Hertfordshire under ‘tier 4’ Covid restrictions, they moved their special family class online via Zoom to raise money for ‘Herts Young Homeless’.
Herts Young Homeless has a variety of free services open to all 16 – 24 year olds who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
On the day, 21 families, including Pod members and other clients joined the class, which put a festive spin on some of the exercises from the Classical Pilates repertoire. Each paid £5 raising £105 – with the Pod topping up the contribution to £250.
Michelle Smith – Director of The Pilates Pod said “We were delighted to be able to do something special this year to help Herts Young Homeless, and we’re very grateful to our clients and their families for joining in with the fun and helping to raise money for this important charity. We look forward to working with them again, and supporting them in the future.”
Caroline Neill, Fundraising and Communications Manager at the charity said “We’d like to thank everyone who kindly took part in the Pilates Pod Christmas Eve Charity event.
“The funds raised will go directly towards supporting our vital services supporting young people who are facing homelessness within the local area. With the lockdown, our services are more in demand than ever before as we are sadly seeing greater financial and mental health pressures on vulnerable families.
“With family breakdown being the biggest cause of youth homelessness, it is essential that our workers continue to support young people who are desperately in need of help.”
